In addition to the physical preparations, such as developing an evacuation plan, packing essential items such as clothes, food, medications, tools, etc., it’s also very important that you have a financial plan! The following is a list of suggestions for proactive steps you can take to help ease your stress in the event of a disaster/ evacuation.
1. Make sure you have enough cash available.Withdrawal a sufficient amount of cash from your GCU account to cover travel and other costs incurred for an extended period of time.
2. Visa Check Card. By having a Visa® Check Card from Gulf Credit Union, you will be able to access your cash from any ATM displaying the Co-op Logo Nationwide.
If you don’t already have a Visa® Check Card, you may order it and receive your card the same day at our Groves Location, or you may receive your card next day at our Beaumont, Bridge City and Mid County Locations. No matter which location you order your card from, you can choose your PIN so that it will be easy for you to remember. You may use your Visa® Check Card with a PIN or you may sign for your purchases each time you use your card. Remember, your Visa® Check Card will give you access to your checking account at the point of purchase, but will allow you to access both your checking and savings accounts at ATMs.
3. Gulf Credit Union Credit Card. A Gulf Credit Union Visa® or MasterCard® is a great financial tool. While out of town, several places may not take “out of town” checks and you may not want to carry a lot of cash that is easily accessible while you are away. A credit card can help with items such as fuel for your vehicles, hotel rooms, food, and whatever else you may need during your time away. If you don’t already have it, apply for your Gulf Credit Union Credit Card today!
- Direct Deposit (As noted in GCU’s “Disaster Plan”, ACH direct deposits will continue to post as they are received.)
